I thought I would make this pattern available. It's a really easy pattern, perfect for the beginner crochenitter.
Simple Tunisian Mittens
Required:
100g DK yarn (divided into 2 equal balls, as double ended crochet works
with 2 strands of yarn – alternatively you may use the outer thread and
the middle thread simultaneously if you've made your own yarn cake)
4mm crochet hook
5mm double ended crochet hook
3 stitch markers
Abbreviations:
ch - chain
sl st - slip stitch
TSS - Tunisian simple stitch
dc - double crochet
incr - increase
fp - forward pass (this is when you pick up the vertical bars in TSS)
rp - return pass (this is when you turn your hook and pull through the
chains to complete the TSS)
dec - decrease (TSS 2 stitches together to decrease)
Wrist Cuff:
With 4mm hook chain 31, sl st to join (be careful not to twist) this forms
the ring of the cuff.
Row 1: ch2 (counts as 1 dc), dc 30, join with sl st to top of chain 2 (first
dc)
Row 2: ch2, fdc, bdc, sl st to join to top of chain 2 (first dc)
Row 3-5: repeat row 2
Hand:
Change to the 5mm double ended hook. (The loop from the 4mm hook
will be the yarn used for the background colour / infil yarn).
Row 1: Using the front of the 5mm hook and the second thread, ch1 in
the first dc. By crocheting through the back loops of the dc stitches, pick
up and crochet 31sts TSS.
Row 2-8: Repeat row 1.
Now for the shaping of the thumb gusset:
Row 9: Ch1, place stitch marker in ch, incr 1st , 1TSS and place marker in
it, incr 1st, 1TSS and place last marker in it, continue until the end of the
row.
Row 10-12: Repeat increases on either side of the middle marker until
you have 4 stitches between the first and the middle and the middle and
the last markers.
Row 13-14: TSS all stitches – remember to ch 1 before picking up the
bars for the new row.
Row 15: ignoring the ch1 on the hook, cast off 9 stitches on fp. On the rp
continue through the loops on your hook – ignoring the cast off stitches –
this will close the thumb gusset. Continue in TSS until the last 2 stitches,
TSS2tog, ch1 (to start the next row).
Row 16: 13TSS, TSS2tog twice, complete the row.
Row 17-19: TSS
Fingers cuff:
Using the 4mm crochet hook and a single thread – crochet row 1 and 2 of
the wrist cuff.
End and cut yarn. Sew away the threads. Wear and enjoy!
